The Nursing Department celebrated International Nurses Day 2026 with dignity and enthusiasm. Both clinical and non-clinical staff participated actively. From 06-05-2026 to 12-05-2026, the department organized a series of educational, professional, and motivational activities to recognize the vital role nurses play in providing safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care.
The celebrations aimed to strengthen professional excellence, teamwork, knowledge building, creativity, discipline, and commitment to patient-centered care. This helped highlight the important role of nursing in healthcare.
The program began with the unveiling of the International Nurses Day Theme 2026: "Our Nurses, Our Future; Empowered Nurses Save Lives" by Medical Director Dr. Prasanth P. The theme underscored the need to empower nurses through ongoing learning, skill development, leadership opportunities, and supportive work environments to improve patient outcomes and strengthen healthcare systems.
On this day, the Ms Jemi -Head of Nursing Services gave a motivational speech. This address recognized the dedication, resilience, and commitment of nurses. It stressed the importance of continuous professional growth and encouraged nurses to maintain the highest standards of safety, ethics, and compassionate care.
6/5/2026- Hand Hygiene Awareness & Knowledge-Skills Competition
A Hand Hygiene Awareness and Knowledge-Skills Competition was held, open to all healthcare staff. The goal was to reinforce infection prevention practices in clinical settings.
The program highlighted that hand hygiene is the most effective measure for preventing healthcare-related infections and ensuring patient safety. Participants were evaluated on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, following standard hand hygiene guidelines. This initiative not only tested knowledge but also improved practical skills among healthcare workers.
07-05-2026 – Health Education Shorts / Patient Education Videos
On 07-05-2026, a creative educational competition took place. Staff members created medical education reels, health education shorts, and patient education videos. The event was conducted solely by staff, with no patient involvement.
Participants made informative and engaging videos on important healthcare topics such as infection prevention, medication safety, nursing education topics, patient safety awareness, hand hygiene practices, Needle Stick Injury (NSI) prevention and management, Biomedical Waste (BMW) management, and IV cannulation procedures.
The main aims of this activity included improving communication skills among healthcare professionals, encouraging creativity in health education delivery, and promoting effective use of digital platforms for awareness.
08-05-2026 – General Nursing & Oncology Nursing Quiz Competition
On 08-05-2026, a Nursing Quiz Competition took place to encourage ongoing learning among nursing staff. The quiz covered topics such as General Nursing, Oncology Nursing, medication safety, infection control, emergency management, chemotherapy protocols, radiation safety, ICU care, nursing ethics, and communication skills.
The competition included two rounds: a preliminary round with theory-based questions and a final round featuring rapid-fire questions and clinical scenarios.
This program improved clinical knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence among participants while encouraging active engagement in a fun and educational way.
09-05-2026 – Grooming & Professional Development Sessions
On 09-05-2026, professional grooming sessions were held for all female employees, both clinical and non-clinical. An external professional trainer conducted the sessions in two batches to enhance participation.
A special grooming session for female nurses focused on maintaining a neat and professional appearance, mainly grooming etiquette This initiative aimed to strengthen professionalism among nursing staff, GDAs, and operations team members while promoting self-respect in professional attire.
11-05-2026 – Best Ward Competition & Best Nurse & Best Budding Nurse Evaluation
A Best Ward Competition took place on 11-05-2026, featuring surprise departmental visits and evaluations by a panel of three judges. Departments were assessed on cleanliness, nursing documentation, infection control practices, medication safety, patient care quality, ward discipline, biomedical waste management, teamwork, and patient safety measures. The best-performing department was named Best Ward or Best Department based on overall performance and scores.
On the same day, evaluations for the Best Nurse and Best Budding Nurse Awards were conducted. Selection criteria included clinical skills, professionalism, leadership, communication, commitment to patient care, teamwork, discipline, and dedication to duties.
The evaluation process encouraged staff to uphold high professional standards and promoted excellence in nursing across all departments
Nurses Day Celebration Report
The program started with a welcome speech by Capt. Jeslin S Prabha, Nursing Superintendent, followed by the Nurses’ Pledge. This reaffirmed the commitment of nursing professionals to compassionate care, patient safety, and ethical practice. The ceremony included a joyful cake-cutting moment, symbolizing unity and gratitude among staff.
A highlight of the program was the address by Medical Director Dr. Prasanth. He gave an insightful speech about the importance of mental well-being and emotional resilience among nurses. He encouraged them to recognize and express feelings of stress and burnout openly. Dr. Prasanth stressed that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. His address focused on empowering nurses to prioritize self-care, communicate challenges, and utilize support systems within the organization, fostering a healthier and more supportive work environment.
After the address, the prize distribution ceremony recognized winners and participants from various competitions throughout the week. Awards were presented in several categories:
Certificates and appreciation awards were given to all winners and participants for their knowledge, creativity, clinical excellence, professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to patient care.
The program ended on an inspiring note, emphasizing nurses as the backbone of healthcare. It encouraged ongoing excellence, well-being, and professional growth in nursing practice.
